Keano's key goal

Posted by Richard in Tottenham Hotspur football Club news, 8th September 2009, 9:52am

Robbie Keane kept the Republic Of Ireland's World Cup hopes on track with a vital late winner in Cyprus on Saturday night.

The Spurs and Republic skipper struck with just seven minutes to go in Nicosia to grab the priceless three points for his side - not least with Group Eight rivals Italy and Bulgaria also winning.

Keano beat Cyprus keeper Avgousti to Damien Duff's cross and powered home his header for his 40th goal for his country.

The result keeps the Republic second behind Italy in Group Eight and maintains a five-point cushion ahead of Bulgaria.
