Landlords in the borough of Haringey have been invited to a new forum meeting, which is being held tonight (Thursday 13 November) at the White Hart Lane Community Sports Centre, N22.

At the forum, local Landlords can discover how they can best work with Haringey Council to provide high quality housing.

The meeting, from 6pm to 8.30pm include an interactive session looking at the council’s housing strategy and how it will impact on landlords.

There will also be an update of the impact of the Local Housing Allowance – a new way of calculating housing benefit for claimants in the private rented sector, introduced in April this year.

In addition, landlords can debate issues relating to energy performance certificates and energy tariffs during a question and answer session with council officers.

Councillor John Bevan, cabinet member for housing, said: “We want to ensure that everyone in Haringey can enjoy good quality housing and private sector landlords have a crucial role to play.

“Housing demand in this borough is such that we cannot simply rely on the council’s own housing stock and help from registered social landlords – we also have to look at ways of building ever closer links with private landlords.
“That’s why we introduced our new Landlords Direct Letting Scheme, to make it quicker and easier for landlords to offer tenancies to people on housing benefit.

“I would strongly encourage landlords to come along to the forum and find out more about they can work with the council in ways that will benefit both parties and, most importantly, those people who are desperate for a good quality home,” Cllr Bevan added.
