Swimming club triumphs
Camden Swiss Cottage Masters had a sensational start to the new swimming season.
They started the day on a very damp Hampstead Heath with 15 swimmers (3 teams) taking part in the Duathalon organised by the City of London and the Heath Lifeguards.
The race involves swimming in the Lido, running to mens pond, swimming round there, running to ladies pond, swimming round there, running down to mixed pond, swimming round there and running to the track for the finish.
Swiss Cottage teams took 1st and 3rd places with Matt Molloy taking fastest Male and Alice Keane (16) taking 2nd female. The winning team was Pete Kavanagh, Matt Molloy, Elizabeth Knowles, Max Hayhurst and Maida Shivik.
13 other swimmers headed for Barnet Copthall to swim in the sprints meet and came away with 34 medals.
Four of the twelve golds were won by Susan Halter (81) who swam in the 1948 Olymipcs in London and is still swimming! She won 100m and 50m back and 100m and 50m free.
Also taking Gold was Steve Mogg (30-34) who won 50m free and 50m fly and took bronze on 100m back and 100m free. Julie Sapsford (18-24) took Gold in 50m and 100m breast. While Kyla Steenhart (30-34) took Gold in 100m breast and silver in 50m breast and bronze in 100m free.
The final individual gold went to Aaron Boersma (30-34) in the 100m free who was followed home by team mates Chris Hoptron (silver) and Steve mogg (bronze). Swiss also took 1,2,3 in 50m free with Steve winning, Chris 2nd and Aaron 3rd.
The mens medley and freestyle teams took gold in both. The mixed freestyle team took silver and the mixed medley team bronze.
Other medal winners were Tamsin Jaggs (who took silver in 100m IM and bronze in 50m fly and 50m free) and Adam Freer (bronze in the 50m and 100m breast). Chris Hopton also took bronze on the 50m back and 50m fly.
An unusual event, the 25 free saw medals for Tamsin (3rd), Doug Oliphant (3rd) and Steve Mogg and Chris Hopton equal second with the time of 12.60.
