Birds and bees fly into Bruce Castle

Posted by news desk in Local News, 12th August 2008, 3:47pm

Close encounters with nature are on offer at Haringey Council's Bruce Castle Museum this month.

On Friday 15 August from 2pm to 4pm, there is a chance to see real honeybees, explore a model hive and try on beekeepers' protective clothing for a hands-on session, with beekeepers Peter and Barbara Dalby.

On Thursday 21 August, there will be a birds of prey spectacular, with hawks, eagles, falcons, and owls taking to the air outside the museum, organised by birds of prey centre Eagle Heights.

There's a chance to see the birds close up as well, and to discover the stories behind the museum's famous tower, which may once have been home for the Bruce Castle hawks in Elizabethan times
The birds will be on show from 2pm, with the flying display scheduled for 2.30 to 3.15pm.

The special events are part of the Habitats programme of arts and crafts events with a nature theme for younger people through the summer.

Other events include insect mask and model making, finding out about fossils and learning the history of herbs, with your own scented pomander to take home.

For more details, visit the Bruce Castle museum on Lordship Lane, N17 8NU, or call 020 8808 8772.
