London Quilters hit Swiss Cottage
Swiss Cottage Gallery is hosting The London Quilters until 19 June 2008.
There are more than thirty quilts featured in this exhibition by London Quilters (LQ). Quilts appear in every colour of the rainbow and range from A4 to bed size.
They include both traditional and contemporary designs but all reflect the passion of their makers. Some of the quilts are by professional textile artists although for others this is the first time they have displayed their work.
The centre piece of the exhibition is the “Dear Jane” quilt inspired by Jane Stickle’s 1863 original. The 169 square patches in the quilt vary. Members of LQ each sewed and donated the blocks before they were sewn together and quilted by the group. The finished quilt which is reproduced on the exhibition invitation will be raffled for charity.
During the period of the exhibition, members of LQ will be on hand to talk about the quilts, their inspiration and the techniques used to create them.
The piece pictured here is called Good Neighbours and was a group effort from an original design by Cynthia Sherbourne.
Entry is free. For more information, visit www.londonquilters.org.uk
The Swiss Cottage Gallery is at the Swiss Cottage Central Library at 88 Avenue Road, London NW3.
