Crisis London appeal this Christmas

Posted by news desk in Local News, 14th November 2008, 4:28pm

Crisis, the national charity for single homeless people, is appealing to the public and businesses to contact them about any suitable buildings in London it can convert into temporary centres for homeless people this Christmas.

The building search will help Crisis rebuild the lives of homeless people in London by providing shelter for those sleeping rough and companionship and support to the vulnerably housed.

Around 2,000 homeless people will also be able to access life-changing advice and medical services at the centres, helping them to take their first steps out of homelessness.

The centres have been running successfully for 36 years, but in order to continue the good work in 2008, five buildings must be found quickly to accommodate guests this year. The buildings need to be available from 1 December until early January with capacities for around 150-300 people.

The charity could pay all rates, insurance and utility bills and will undertake to return the building to the donor in exactly the same order as when it was handed over.

The buildings need to have the following requirements:

•Between 30.000 - 60,000 Sq ft
•Large areas for communal use
•Kitchens or areas that can be converted into kitchens
•External space for parking
•Toilet and washing facilities or space and drainage for them to be installed
•Clean and dry throughout
•Close to public transport links
•Preferably away from residential areas
•Available from 1st December or before.
•Within the Inner London Boroughs

If you know of any suitable buildings, please contact Mike Thomas at Crisis on
