2012 – Beat the New Year Blues with some top tip resolutions from Macmillan!
With the festivities and fun of Christmas and New Year over, it’s not just the New Year Blues we have to look forward to! Now is the perfect time to make some New Year Resolutions that will kick start your 2012.
Whether it’s finally learning to bake, keeping fit, putting your finances in order or getting involved in your community here are some ideas from the London team at Macmillan Cancer Support to help you make your very own achievable New Year Resolutions!
We hope you enjoy our New Year Resolution ideas and look forward to seeing you during 2012!
1. Get Fit for Charity! It’s traditional that at least one New Year Resolution involves getting or keeping fit. Macmillan has some fantastic events in 2012 suitable for beginners or fitness freaks. Find out about our runs here: www.macmillan.org.uk/running
2. Get involved with your local community. Always wanted to volunteer but never sure how to start? You could find or start your own local fundraising group – a great way to meet people in your local community, raise money for charity and have fun! From charity bike rides, coffee mornings, bake offs, pub quizzes, speed dating, to wine tasting to DJ nights, our fundraising groups now how to put the fun into fundraising. 3. Get your finances in order. With the festivities over and the nights still drawing in, it’s a good time to sit down and sort out your finances. Few of us think of writing a will [http://www.macmillan.org.uk/Donate/Legacies/Legacies.aspx], but a short amount of time spent doing this now could make the world of difference to friends and family and it’s only right that they come first in your thoughts. However, these days many people like to find a place for a cause close to their heard in their will, including Macmillan Cancer Support, and gifts in wills help fund over a third of our vital services.
4. Get Campaigning. Want to have an impact on a wider political level, but unsure how? Macmillan Cancer Support e-campaigns are a simple and easy way. From pushing for free prescriptions, calling for an end to hospital parking charges to freezing out fuel poverty, Macmillan’s campaigns really can make a difference. Join our network of e-campaigners and take action online: http://www.macmillan.org.uk/GetInvolved/Campaigns/Campaigns.aspx
5. Get rid of back to work blues Already feeling the being back at work blues? Why not plan some social events that don’t involve the pub, but do involve fundraising?! From cake sales, fun runs, sponsored fancy dress, tackling the Three Peaks Challenge or even putting on a big event – these are great ways of getting to know your colleagues better, whilst raising money for a charity of your choice.
At Macmillan Cancer Support we depend on the fantastic efforts of all our supporters, which make it possible for the charity to continue providing vital practical, medical, emotional and financial support to people living with cancer. 2012 is a big year for Macmillan London as it will see the opening of our groundbreaking UCH Macmillan Cancer Centre, which will provide a holistic model of care centred on the needs of patients, their families and carers throughout their cancer journey.
