When i was a kid in the 1970's there was a huge flood in the area and leaving Swiss Cottage swimming pool to go home through Kilburn the water was shoulder high - no one believes me now but im sure the old Bird in Hand pub in Kilburn had a plaque on the wall showing how high the water reached - i think it was about 1976 - anyone else remember this?

  1. I can't remember much but I have a recollection of it - I lived in St Johns Wood and was about 7years, I remember my parents talking about a flood at Swiss Cottage but I'm sure it was earlier - about 1973/4.

  2. The date of the flood was 14th August 1975 (taken from the plaque on the Bird in Hand pub wall). I recall arriving at Belsize Park tube and waiting in the station entrance with many others and watching the most amazing site of water flowing down the hill. I then walked back to my home in Belsize Park Gardens and arrived absolutely soaked.
